“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.'”
Jonah 2:8, 9 NIV
When I turn to anyone or anything else other than You and Jesus, I have chosen to have a conditional relationship with You Father. I pray for a relationship with You that honors You always. I pray to always put You first and to always seek Your light. As You mold my clay, squeeze out those things that displease You. In Your son’s holy name I pray to You. Amen.
Jonah was in the mouth of a whale declaring God’s strength, power, and glory. He did not give up and accept defeat, but rather knew that only God could determine his fate. He prayed for God’s will to be done. His faith and commitment during the darkest of moments showed Jonah’s true character, and because of this God released Jonah from the whale.
How many of us can say that if we were in the same situation we would think, respond, and pray as Jonah did that day? Jonah was less focused on himself and totally focused on God. There is an amazing quote by Beth Moore that truly highlights this relationship that Jonah had with God, and the type of relationship that we should all strive to have, “Spiritual worship is focusing all we are on all He is.”
Think about that—if we only focused on our connection to and with God, and saw ourselves only as He sees us—how would our lives change for the better? What types of obstacles could we overcome when our vision is never limited?
We should all pray for this type of focus.
Love always your sister in Christ,
