But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
Notice anything amazing about this Bible passage?
How about the fact that the majority of people aren’t participating in this exchange between older “seasoned” individuals and their younger counterparts. How often do you sit down with a “seasoned” citizen (as my mom would call them) and listen to their words of wisdom, then take that wisdom and apply it in your daily life? What’s stopping you besides yourself? Who do you know that you respect and admire that is 20, 40, or 60-plus years older than you? Pick up a phone or make a drive, and sit down and soak up the knowledge God has blessed them with…then receive your blessings!
Father show us how to reconnect our older men and women with our younger men and women. Let those youthful in age turn to their older and wiser elders for counsel, direction, and support. Let these elders be planted firmly in Your Word and light that they guide as You would expect. Let Your younger children be receptive to this guidance as they see it as an opportunity to learn how to become more Christ-like; loving, patient, kind, responsible, and understanding. Warm our hearts Lord so that this may be a reality for not just the few. Let us see Your intent. Let us receive Your blessings. Amen.
