Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
Prayer should not be a lazy and casual act, nor should it be for show; but rather purposeful— as your dedication to taking this spiritual walk with our Father and His son.
Prayer is another sign of your devotion to God, Jesus, and the Kingdom that you are an ambassador of and for— and that you are helping to build.
When you pray, you’re speaking with God. You’re asking for guidance, asking Him how He wants you to behave, proceed down a path, and how He wants you to speak. He is your lifelong companion, the only companion that you will ever have that is with you 24/7, who sees and hears all, and knows all. He’s the only companion that can read your thoughts and communicate through them. You are never alone—because God is always with you. This should thrill you, elate you, bring you a sense of calm and comfort.
Throughout each day, God is communicating with us. Some of us struggle with discerning His voice above all others. When you are mindful and alert, you begin to see, hear, and know God’s presence. You also development stronger discernment to recognize the trappings of the enemy. That is why we are to devote ourselves to being watchful. Not just with our eyes, but using our hearts and minds.
The enemy never sleeps, but neither does God—who allows the enemy to exist.
We are given choices in life. The more that we authentically and faithfully pray, watch, and give thanks, the more we see God’s light—and the choices become easier to make. What appears to be good may not be right. Something tastes good but it may not be right for us. Someone looks good to us but they may not be right for us. An opportunity may look good but it may not be the right one.
Not everything that appears to be good is from God. Just because God made it doesn’t mean it wasn’t tampered with. You don’t know what the enemy has hijacked and rigged for your failure. Pray to God to help you see what is right so you know the right decisions to make, at the right time.
Take several moments throughout your day to pray, reflect, show thanks and appreciation, and to give back to our heavenly Father. Don’t just use prayer as a time to express a form of conditional love, where you are only asking for something, and only thankful when you receive His blessings. Prayer isn’t one-sided. Like all healthy relationships, it’s built on trust, openness, and giving as much as you receive.
Father, every day throughout my day I want to stop and pray to You, to give thanks to You, and to connect with You.
In my prayers, I deepen my understanding of my purpose and Your guidance over me. Through my prayers, my eyes are opened wider, my heart is warmed, my mind thrives, and my ears are more alert.
I am able to discern more because through Your patience and care I have been exposed to Your truths— and the more I believe and walk in obedience, the more I receive. Thank You Father. Amen.
