Breaking Bread For 4.13.20

Scripture

He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Mark 7:20-23

Reflection

What is in your heart surfaces in your mind, and comes out of you through word, action and inaction. If you are two-faced, a back stabber, arrogant, cruel, abusive, or stingy with your money, time, and resources, that is in your heart and defines you as a person.

If you have the means to do so but still choose to pay people and businesses late or not at all— it is a reflection of your heart, and it clouds your thinking. If you have to remind people what you have done for them, make them feel as though they couldn’t get what they have without you, that is the darkness of your heart pouring into your daily life. Cleanse your heart, mind, and your mouth.

God doesn’t sit back and run down a list of things He’s done for you. He doesn’t send you an itemized letter listing every blessing you have received to remind you of His greatness. Jesus doesn’t pop in and say, “Hey don’t forget I let them nail me to the cross, beat and torture me so I could save you“.

If you choose to hold on to clothes, furniture, and items that you no longer use, instead of donating them to someone who could get the most use out of them— you are blocking someone else’s blessings and in turn, blocking your own.

If you get in a disagreement or end a relationship focused solely on what someone did to you, or didn’t give you, and not on creating resolution and harmony, then are you truly walking in God’s light, and being Christ-like?

If you’re more focused on being right and proving others wrong, out of a desire to control the narrative, outcome, etcetera, then you totally miss the point Jesus taught. You need to look in the mirror and decide which life you want to lead— the one God has planned for you, or the one you currently are ruining, thinking you are living right.

Prayer

Father, I pray to You that if in me You see greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, arrogance, folly, a slanderous and sexually immoral person—please rid me and my heart of these ungodly ways, as they aren’t a pure reflection and representation of You.

I only want to do right, live right, and express the righteous qualities that come from You and Your son, and not the world in which I live. Please clean my impure thoughts, please redirect my footing, please help me to see Your light and Your wishes for me.

Let me to not be so into myself that I fail to see what You have given me and provided to me through Your children. Let me see, respect, honor, and acknowledge all of those people who have helped me each day of my life no matter how big or small the deed— for they did these things through Your loving guidance and commands. Thank You Father. Amen.

Loving you always,

Natasha
